Inglewood Neighbourhood Named the Best in Canada

2014 Great PlacesThe 2014 Great Places in Canada contest has announced its winners and Inglewood neighbourhood has been chosen for best neighbourhood in Canada. Five locations were chosen and Inglewood was one of them for the 2014 Great Places in Canada contest. Canadians submitted their votes and a panel of experts weighed in to make the decision. Here is a look at the contest and why Inglewood was chosen.

2014 Great Places in Canada

After 14,000 votes from residents around Canada over a 7-month timeframe, the contest results are in. The votes by the people of Canada were for Old East Village in London, Ontario but the panel of experts agreed on Inglewood neighbourhood.

The other contest winners were La rue du Petit-Champlain of Quebec for the great street award and for great public space, the award went to Antigonish Town and Country Library of Antigonish, NS. Rue du Petit-Champlain is a beautiful, historic pedestrian street in Canada focused on local culture and regularly displaying holiday lights and spring flowers.

Why Inglewood?

Andrea Winkler, contest judge, explains that Inglewood was voted as the best Canadian neighbourhood by the panel of judges. Not only is it a great neighbourhood to visit but it’s a great place to live. The neighbourhood supports local businesses and community facilities while having a large affordable housing stock in an inclusive community. Inglewood received props for having a great local culture, celebrating local artisans and having great night markets.

The neighbourhood is eclectic, vibrant and evolving in arts and culture. They offer over 200 shops, restaurants, cafes and live music options. Most residents of Inglewood work in Inglewood showing the popularity of being in this area.

Inglewood has a large sense of community, volunteerism and the feel of the area is as if you are in a village rather than an expanding city. Crime is low and the neighbourhood has a good amount of diversity. Along with hosting many events and festivals, the neighbourhood values art and music.
