Calgary’s Boys and Girls Club has been running for 75 years. This program has been helping Calgary kids for a long time by giving them a safe place to spend time and learn after school. Back in the times when most men were overseas fighting in the Second World War in the 1930s and 1940s, young boys found themselves with little male influence to surround themselves with.

The Boys Club offered wooden airplane kits, Ping-Pong tables, boxing and simply a place where boys close in age could socialize with one another. During the war and after, the club remained in place for kids. The Boys and Girls Club has been influencing kids in a positive way for many years.

What is the Boys and Girls Club?

The Boys and Girls Club is an environment for kids to gain self-confidence, learn leadership skills and make friends. When it began it brought together kids from the community even better than school had brought them together.

Kids have joined Boys and Girls Club in order to talk, participate in activities, plan activities, play sports in a gym and do crafts. The leaders used to get kids involved by planning trips to other areas such as hiking and skiing in Nova Scotia or California.

The Boys and Girls Club of Calgary

The Boys and Girls Club in Calgary has been offering a safe and supportive place for kids and teens to come together. They not only make friends but they are learning life skills, building positive relationships and trying new experiences. They help homeless teens complete high school, provides resources to kids in need and provides mental health support.

The organization has expanded to 27 locations and continues to help vulnerable kids and families through continuum programs. The Calgary location only pays 250 stuff members because they have 1,900 volunteers which serve 21,000 children and families per year.

The Boys and Girls Club of Calgary is doing amazing things for the families in the community.
