Can you feel the love tonight? February is filled with romantic and exciting events in Calgary. It may still be winter, but the city of Calgary becomes a buzz of activity as the thought of boxed chocolates, roses, and walking hand-in-hand come to the forefront of our minds. Valentine’s day is an excellent excuse to get out of the house, enjoy the warmth in the air (even if the temperature is typical of February), and explore the heart-warming activities and sights that the city hosts.

Of course, February is not all about couples in love, it is also about showing love to those in need or finding new unique tastes that you will love to add to your ‘best food in Calgary’ list. For this entire month, you’ll have many opportunities to support and raise funds for good causes and spread love in new ways. Burwood Tasting—February 20th

Hosted by Shelter YYC, on February 20th Calgarians have the chance to come and taste the flavours offered by Burwood Distillary. Guests will try a variety of beverage samples including Single Hive Bourbon. As well, each guest will receive two cocktails, paired appetizers, and have the chance to win in a blind tasting contest. Tickets are $70 each, available on the Shelter YYC website.

Winefest Calgary—February 22–23rd

Rosé, merlot, cabernet, or pinot gris? Maybe a moscato as sweet as you! Whatever type of wine you prefer, you are bound to find your new favourite glass at the Winefest Calgary event. This local gathering taking place at the BMO Centre features wines from around the globe as well as locally. Tickets include wine samples, hors d’oeurves, and a complimentary wine glass. Event tickets are available online for adults 18+ only.

Avenue Magazine’s Best Restaurants—February 27th

Are you a foodie always looking for the next best place? Avenue Magazine will be hosting an extravagant food event that will allow guests to try Calgary’s best cuisine of 2019. Located at the Willow Park Wines & Spirits, the winning restaurants will share tastes of their top food in appetizer form. All ticket proceeds for this event will go to The Alex Community Food Centre.

Kids & Family Events in Calgary

Locked Library—February 1st   

You have heard of locked rooms, but have you heard of the Locked Library? To kick off February, the Calgary Public Library’s new central location will be hosting a locked-room event. Teams will work together over 2 hours to solve puzzles and try to ‘escape.’ Tickets are available on the Calgary Public Library website and all proceeds will go towards the Calgary Public Library Foundation.

Glow—February 14–18th

Located on 8th Avenue in Downtown Calgary, the fantastic Glow winter event will light up Calgary mid-February. This brightly lit and family friendly event will display large scale lighting installations, perfect for a romantic evening with your loved one on Valentine’s Day. The event will continue until the 18th, showcasing unique displays and entertainment that will light up the downtown area.

Family FISHtival—February 16th

To kick off the ‘Alberta’s Family Fishing Weekend,’ the Bow Habitat Station in Calgary is hosting the Family FISHtival event. Highlighting free outdoor activities such as snowshoeing, fishing games, marshmallow roast, and more, the event also has additional activities indoors for a $5 charge. Investigation stations and event activities are open from 10am–4pm.

Wedding Show—February 2nd

If 2019 is full of wedding bells for you, then you will not want to miss out on the Wedding Show taking place at The Glenmore Inn & Convention Centre this month! Calgary Night Market—February 8th

The market will be taking place at Eau Claire Market where more than 40 vendors will be sharing their handcrafted goods for sale. Come and find the perfect local gift to show how much you love your partner!

YYC Girl Gang’s Galentine Market—February 9th

Bringing a focus to the girl bosses of YYC, the YYC Girl Gang’s Galentine Market is all about empowering women in the community. The market will feature shops of local artists and talents who have brought their creations to share and sell. This market will be open from 10am–4pm at The Commons Calgary.

In the Heat of the Night—February 14–15th

Come down to the Calgary Zoo for a spicy Valentine’s day evening and learn about animal romances at the In the Heat of the Night event! Experience an evening of gourmet dining in the ENMAX Conservatory and listen to naughty talks so that “you’ll never look at animals and plants the same way again.” Tickets are available on the zoo website; limited seating is available.

WUB Tour Calgary—February 16th

The WUB Tour Calgary is an event focusing on the need to take a step back and breathe. Described as a “one day conscious gathering,” event-goers can join the wellness gathering and try out yoga, meditation, drumming, breathing techniques, personal growth, and more!

Music and Entertainment Events in Calgary

Chinese New Year Concert—February 2nd

For the second year in a row, the Mount Royal Bella Concert Hall will be hosting the Chinese New Year Concert. This musical event will feature traditional music, poetry, and performances to celebrate this ancient tradition. Tickets are $36 each and can be purchased on the Mount Royal University website.

Arkells: The 2019 Rally Cry Tour—February 9th

Musical group, the Arkells will be visiting Calgary on February 9th with special guests, Lord Huron, for an exhilarating evening. For every ticket purchased, $1 will be donated to support the “rights of refugees and vulnerable migrants in Canada through the Canadian Council for Refugees.” Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.

Aziz Ansari: Road to Nowhere—February 14th

American comedian, actor, and producer, Aziz Ansari will be coming to the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino on Thursday February 14th for his Road to Nowhere Tour. Come down to enjoy an evening filled with laughter and entertainment! Event begins at 7pm—no cellphones or electronics will be permitted.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert—February 28th–March 2nd

Are you or your children Harry Potter fans? At the end of February, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing live in concert, playing along while the audience watches the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets film. The event is located at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium; tickets are available on Ticketmaster.ca.

Charity Events in Calgary

The Big Ball—February 1st

Said to be “a giant night of libations, live music, live auctions, & luxurious cuisine,” The Big Ball is a highly anticipated charity gala. Hosted by Women for Men’s Health, all ticket and auction proceeds will be put towards the thousands of men in Calgary, helping them and their families with mental health issues (in support of Calgary’s Prostate Cancer Centre). Tickets are available online for $275 plus tax.
