Britannia became a part of Calgary City in 1910, and by 1956 the Britannia community was established. However, significant developments in the neighbourhood only occurred during the late 1950s. By 1976, Britannia had become a part of Calgary's Ward 11 with Calgary City Council as the governing body.
In 1907, FC Lowes saw Britannia as a potential high-end community and helped develop the area. Wide streets and fifty foot lots with unique curved streets were constructed.
