Discovery Ridge Neighbourhood
Discovery Ridge is a residential neighbourhood located in West Calgary, Alberta. Its development began during the late 1990s, and it was originally named as New Discovery and planned as a gated subdivision. This plan was eventually dropped, and the community is now known as Discovery Ridge.
Estate houses and detached, single-family residences dominate homes in Discovery Ridge. There’s a wide selection of newer homes in the neighborhood, but it is among the more affordable west-end communities in Calgary. The real estate prices here drift toward the high-mid range. No homes are for rent at Discovery Ridge and there are two active homeowners associations, making it a very close-knit community .
Glenmore Trail defines the northern boundary of the neighborhood, while 69 Street W marks its eastern periphery. The city limits and Rocky View County are to the west of the community, while the Tsuu T'ina First Nation Reserve and Elbow River lie south of it.
This ideal location of the community provides panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains and the western foothills. Notably, the 93-hectare Griffith Woods Environmental Park is also along the southern border of Discovery Ridge. This helps ensure that the area around the neighborhood won't be overdeveloped with future residential growth. Moreover, the nearby park’s woodlands offer pathways and trail systems for neighbourhood walkers, horseback riders, cyclists, and roller-bladers.
Discovery Ridge Community Amenities
This pastoral setting doesn’t mean that the Discovery Ridge community is far detached from modern amenities. Via Glenmore Trail, home owners are just a short drive away from the downtown districts of Calgary. Retail shops and business properties, such as those at the Westhills Shopping Centre and Signal Hill, are also only minutes away from the community. A year-round recreational facility, the Westside Recreation Centre is likewise nearby with its state-of-the-art fitness facilities, indoor track, wave and lap pool, water slide, gymnasium, rock climbing, hockey arena and skating rink.
